Welcome to A Gravel Road Journey!

NOT SO LONG AGO, Dad RE-named his art studio, "A Gravel Road Studio", and so this seemed an appropiate title for his blog.

Why 'Gravel Road'? As Dad explains, "Gravel roads take us off life's busy highway and force us to slow down. When we slow down we have time - time to notice the things around us; the things that matter the most; life and breath, the flowers and the trees. Gravel roads allow us to taste the dust of our travel and give us time to breathe."

Since his studio is a place of quiet reflection and contemplation, we wanted to create a space for family and friends to do the same as we journey together down this new and unknown path. We also wish to keep family and friends updated on his diagnoses and treatment, so please check in often for updates and new information.

Some Pictures and Video From the Art Show

Wanted to post these links here for those of you who weren't able to make it to the art exhibit at all. The first link is to Saint Benedict's Table. The preacher of this church, Jamie Howison was one of the ones who spoke at the opening and closing ceremonies of the show. The second is video footage that was shot by Shaw TV (posted on SignPost Music's website).

Hope you enjoy!
Dana

http://saintbenedictstable.ca/ - You'll have to scroll down the page quite a way. The link is in a news box in the center of the page ("Folkerts/Unfinished Business"). Click on the link and you can see a slide show of pictures from the closing ceremony, as well as listen to the address by Jamie Howison and Cal Seerveld.

http://signpostmusic.com - Scroll about half way down the page and the link is in the middle of the page under "Latest News - Folkerts Event Aired on Shaw TV". You may have to upgrade your Windows Media player - or if you have the lastest version, click on the box saying so and the video will come onto the screen.

Thank you so much for that link. It was a joy to listen to everyone, especially Gerald. We are so glad that things are going well for now. Let us count our blessings! Give our love to Gerald and Arlis. We pray for all of you every day and am thankful for the way in which God is taking care of everything.

Hey, I'm so glad that the link to the audio has now been made. I think that what Cal Seerveld does with his words is quite astonishing... made all the better with how Steve responds musically. You can so clearly hear the emotion in both of their voices, but it is not just emotionalism, but rather emotion born of such a strong bond of friendship with Gerald. Powerful stuff.

Okay, so on the saint ben's site I've now marked the closing ceremony as a "featured post." If you come into our site, just look to the left side of the home page, and click where it says "Folkerts: Unfinished Business."

Please do visit us on the site... we love to have people come through.

A quick hello from Elena and Bob Bennett in Southern California. We so wished we could have been at the Exhibit and are so grateful for the audio and video online to give a little glimpse of the goings on. "Waiting for Eternity" is in our family room and "No Time to Sleep" is in my office. Daily our eyes wander to these works and prompt us to thank God for Gerald.

Gerald,

I wasn't sure where to leave my note, so I'll leave it here. Nancy & I were so touched that you thought of us all the way out here in South Holland; that you sent us a copy of "Unfinished Business" with your personalized note. We just got it today.

Thank you! It is a wonderful book and contains many of the pieces we have seen and loved, as well as some we have not seen.

Nancy and I think of you and your family often. We pray for your regularly and check this blog.

However long the Lord has for you here, we know he has incredible business for you to pursue in the life to come.

Richard & Nancy Zekveld.
